Bezier Lineart (Solids) for PaintBBS

Tutorial © to La_mia.

The objective of this tutorial is to achieve lines like the one you see at the left.
First, get your Sketch ready on the (BG Layer).

Note: The Sketch is VERY important as it serves as a guide. You will be following the Sketch very closely, so make sure you have a Good Sketch.

Tools: I use Solid, Bezier, and at size 2px and black colour.

Now Switch to (FG Layer).

Now you have to decide where is the Starting and the Ending of your line.

The blue circles there are the points I have chosen as my Starting and my Ending.

First, click and Hold on your Starting point. A line will appear. Then Drag it to the Ending point.
Now let go. A thicker line (because you are using 2px line) should appear, if not, just move it a bit, it should appear.
Now bring your cursor to follow as closely to the sketch as possible.

It does not need to be that close to the sketch, but make it follow the sketch closer to the starting point (left in this case).

Once you have decided, click once.

Now to adjust somemore. This time try to follow as closely as possible to the sketch.
Once you have decided, click once again. The results will be as shown on the left. Hooray, now you have created a line with the bezier tool.
Now I am just going to repeat all over again.

First, select your starting and ending points..

Click on your starting point and then drag to your ending point. Then let go.
A thicker line should appear (the line would appear the same if you are using 1px lines).
Then adjust until the line nearest to the starting point follows the sketch closely. Then click.
Adjust the line once more until is follwing the sketch very closely, if not, you can always Undo and try again.
Now click again, and you get your line.
Now I have completed the lines with the Bezier tool by repeating the steps above.
I cleared the skecth on the (BG Layer).

This is how the lines look like without the sketch, very flat and full of mistakes, so now is the time to add and delete pixels.

I Zoomed in. This is to allow me to see the parts that need to be changed.
The blue circles are some examples of what needs to be edited. Usually, they are the beginning and ending of the lines.
Now I have edited the lines. I erase some of the lines and add some lines with the Solid(Freehand) tool.

For fur, I tend to add lines at the points they join together. For the rest, I usually thin them by erasing some of the lines.

This picture is just to show what I have erased or added.

Blue lines are the original lines after beizer (also the lines I erased).

Yellow lines are the lines (1px or more) I added.

Black lines are the result from erasing the some of the lines.

Another zoomed in veiw of the lines.

Zooming helps as it allows you to have more control over the lines you're adding and erasing

Finally, the lines are complete.

Compare with the lines after the bezier tool. Don't they stand out more?

Varying thickness of lines makes the lineart more interesting.

The Bezier tool might seem difficult at first, but with practice, you can do it very quickly. So, happy Oekakiing!
